Programmatoelichting:

"This last summer I reconnected with Floris and at the end of a project, I wanted to hear how he wrote himself: also for him the question was: what would you want to write? The only thing I knew then was that I wanted to play suite 6 of Bach. Floris got inspired to look into the solo viola and with a mixture of inspiration from Ligeti and Bach, he wrote a very Floris piece. Floris: “A prelude to life. A preparation for the experience of living. An anticipation of the ups and downs where only hope is able to rescue from the lowest point.” The Golden Prélude is the first movement of a longer piece with working title ‘Partita for solo viola’."

"(...), we descend uponon earth and land in the midst of a Cypriot fairytale. Apollon: "Stories are alive. Their essence passes from generation to generation and the changes they receive, make them an evolving organism that adapts with time. Storytellers are the vessels, which transmit the story through their experiences and emotions, impersonating the characters as they feel related to. "Spanos  and the 40 dragons" is a folk Cypriot rather peculiar tale, that has survived through centuries. Will Spanos manage to slain the 40 dragons and restore the flow of water to the village?". I still am not sure if Apollon sees me as Spanos or merely the bard telling about this wicked and sometimes funmy fairytale of Cyprus."

Programmatoelichting:

"This rhapsody concerto spoke to me from the moment I heard it. Its lyrical lines fit my playing and from the beginning it has nothing but kind to me.

Bohuslav wrote the piece in the 50s. Being long time far from his home country, he returns in his later years towards a more chech inspired language. We hear lyrical lines which can reference old school romantic music, a little bit like Dvorak. I also sometimes hear, inside these very lyrical themes, some western movies themes. "
